Below are some answers to some of the common questions I get asked.
How many sessions will I need?
All of us are different and we all experience different issues and symptoms. Therefore, it isn’t possible to give you a set number of sessions. If you’ve been experiencing your symptoms for quite some time, it will certainly take a number of sessions. Some clients only need three or four, some need more like eight to 12. And others will continue to have further sessions.
Do I need to do anything between sessions?
I’m here to facilitate your understanding of your issues, habits or symptoms and help you create the change you desire. I may, at times, give you certain tasks or exercises to do between sessions. This is to support you further and speed up the process.
Do you work face-to-face or remotely?
I can work with you either face-to-face in Newbury or Thatcham or we can work remotely via Zoom or Skype. All the techniques I use can be adapted to work over these platforms. So your location is unimportant.
How much do the sessions cost?
I charge £65.00 per session. (For quit smoking hypnotherapy there is a one-off fee of £150).
What techniques do you use?
I may use a variety of techniques including hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, energy healing, emotional freedom technique (EFT) and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) as well as coaching techniques. The combination of techniques we use will be dependent on your own individual circumstances and preferences.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in order to facilitate ‘therapy’. Hypnosis simply means being in a relaxed state where I am able to talk directly to your subconscious. There are different techniques we can use when you’re in hypnosis from the straight-forward approach of planting positive and helpful suggestions into your mind to a more psychoanalytical approach.
What is it like being hypnotised?
Most people describe it as just feeling really relaxed, but also acutely aware of their surroundings. You can’t get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis. And you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do! It’s a very safe and natural process and by bypassing the conscious mind, can be incredibly powerful.
What is energy healing?
Everything is made up of energy – vibrating at different frequencies. And we humans are no different. We have an energy field which includes energy centres within our bodies (chakras) and radiates right out to the space around us. This energy field holds our physical symptoms and illnesses as well as our life experiences and emotional traumas. Any of these can cause our energy fields to become blocked or out-of-balance. As a qualified healer I can connect to your energy field and work through the causes of these blocks, channelling energy to where it is needed and allowing blocks to be released.
What happens during an energy healing session?
A face-to-face session involves you lying on a couch fully-clothed. I will usually work in your energy field so my hands will be away from your body. Occasionally I may do some hands-on healing. Depending on what we’re working on you can simply lie and relax or we may do some interactive work where I may ask you to do some visualisation for example. (If working remotely, healing works in exactly the same way).
What is NLP?
NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming. It is based on the knowledge that we all form our own unique ‘mental maps’ of the world because of how we filter and perceive information from the world around us. We all attach our own personal meaning to the information we receive through all of our senses and we think, feel and act in a certain way because of this. NLP can be used to change this ‘programming’ of how we think, feel and act in order to achieve our goals.
What is EFT?
EFT stands for emotional freedom technique and it is a relatively new and fast-growing field of therapy. Like energy healing, it works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. It uses ‘tapping’ on acupressure points to do this whilst verbally focusing on the specific problem.
Are the sessions confidential?
Absolutely. I take confidentiality extremely seriously. It is also a key part of the codes of ethics and practice that I sign up to with the professional bodies of which I am a member. Everything discussed during sessions will be totally confidential. From time to time I may discuss certain cases with my professional supervisor but this is always done anonymously. In addition, my records of our session are kept confidential and secure.
Why 'Intuitive Giraffe?'
A lot of the work I do is pretty intuitive. And I love nature and its healing affects. The Giraffe is a magnificent animal - those long necks have something to teach us about stretching ourselves and elongating our vision. The Giraffe shows us how to stand tall and reach as far as we can. And the giraffe's horns symbolise its intuition and connection to the universe. The giraffe teaches us to reach for the best in life and strive through challenges whilst maintaining balance and grace.
