When confronted with your fear do you get butterflies, have a racing heart, feel paralysed with fear or suffer a panic attack? 


Fear is a rational and healthy response to a threat and is designed to protect us from danger. However, sometimes our fears can be irrational, unrealistic or extremely intense. This type of fear is a phobia. And phobias are far more common than you may think.


Some of the most common phobias are:

·         Fear of flying

·         Fear of heights

·         Fear of spiders

·         Fear of the dentist

·         Fear of needles

·         Fear of open or closed spaces.


Often people with a phobia know it’s irrational - “I know it’s stupid but…” however the feelings are very real indeed. Many phobias exist in our subconscious mind and are learned responses. This means that no matter how much we or anyone tells us it is irrational, in our minds it can feel quite literally life-threatening. This is where hypnotherapy can come in.

Talking to your subconscious mind
our mind is made up of your conscious mind and your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is the thinking, logical part of your mind – the part that plans, analyses and sets goals. Your subconscious mind is the part of your mind that stores all your beliefs, habits and learned behaviours – many of these things you’re not even aware of. It’s this part of the mind that we talk to in hypnotherapy to unravel the cause of your phobia. Our aim is to ‘re-programme’ your subconscious reaction to the object of your phobia so that you can face it calmly and be in control.

Overcoming your phobia 
Imagine overcoming your phobia – being able to face it and feel totally calm, relaxed and confident. Depending on your specific situation it may only take a couple of hypnotherapy sessions to achieve this. And don’t worry – I won’t subject you to the object of your phobia during a session (for example, I won’t bring out a spider for those with a spider phobia!).
