Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in order to facilitate positive change. Hypnosis is incredibly safe and rather than being like sleep, it is simply an altered state of awareness.
Your mind is made up of your conscious and your subconscious. Your conscious mind is the thinking, analytical part that gets on with every day life and thinks logically. The subconscious is the part of your mind that holds your beliefs, memories, experiences, behaviours and habits. The subconscious mind becomes a model for how we will behave in the future; it creates a kind of ‘programme’ which tells us how to respond and behave based on our past experiences. That’s why we often behave in certain ways or get stuck in bad habits – they are just programmed into our subconscious and we keep following the programme without being aware that we’re doing it.
When you are in hypnosis we are able to access your subconscious mind in order to create positive changes.
Most people describe being in hypnosis as feeling incredibly relaxed, but also acutely aware. You are in complete control and will only enter hypnosis if you want to. And you can’t get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis. Likewise you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do! It’s a very safe and natural process and by bypassing the conscious mind, it can be incredibly powerful.
There are different techniques we can use when you’re in hypnosis from the straight-forward approach of planting positive and helpful suggestions into your mind to a more psychoanalytical approach.
