A guide to your brow chakra

This is the sixth in the series of blog posts focusing on the seven main chakras and in this blog we look at the sixth chakra – the brow chakra. 

 

The brow chakra is our centre of perception and captures our view of the world. It is where we learn wisdom, clarity, intuition and insight. Often referred to as our third eye, it helps us see clearly (either literally or symbolically), interpret the world and separate reality from fantasy. In this chakra we develop our imagination and action our ideas. We recognise patterns and understand mental concepts and we learn to detach and keep an open mind.

 

Below is a summary of the some of the main attributes of the brow chakra:

Location:                     Centre of the forehead, just above the nose

 

Colour:                        Indigo

 

Element:                     Light

 

Subtle body:               Budhic body

Challenge:                 Illusion

 

Twinned with:            Solar plexus chakra

 

Basic rights:                To see

 

Physical issues:         Lower parts of the brain, endocrine system, eyes and pituitary gland

 

Emotional issues:       Wisdom, intuition, clarity, perspective, self-awareness, imagination, dreams, vision, clairvoyance, telepathy

 

When our brow chakra is open and healthy we are able to discern our highest good, we have profound awareness and intuition and we see clearly and understand what we see. We are able to understand mental concepts and recognise patterns. We are open-minded with a strong sense of perspective, we are open to new ideas, and we are able to access our inner wisdom and guidance.

 

As the brow chakra is related to vision and the eyes, sometimes a fear arising from something we have seen can cause blocks in our brow chakra, for example being in a violent environment. Also, if what you are told does not match what you are see, your brow chakra may become unbalanced as you struggle to makes sense of things. Shame can affect your brow chakra as it is essentially vision turned inwards. Other things that may affect the brow chakra are; having a negative reaction to receiving intuitive or psychic messages; or negative thoughts and feelings about the past, future or spiritual beliefs.
 

 

If your brow chakra is out of balance you may experience a wide range of physical and emotional issues:

 

Physical manifestations of an out-of-balance brow chakra are:

  • Brain and neurological conditions

  • Strokes

  • Headaches

  • Vision problems or blindness

  • Migraines

  • Sinus problems

  • Glaucoma or cataracts

  • Colour blindness

  • Bags under the eyes

 

Emotional manifestations are:

  • Confusion and disorientation

  • Lack of emotional intelligence

  • Learning disabilities

  • Forgetfulness or muddled thinking

  • Depression

  • Panic attacks

  • Lack of focus and direction

  • Lack of clarity and problems with concentration

  • Inability to solve problems

  • Distraction

  • Problems prioritising and understanding what is and isn’t important

  • Nightmares or conversely, inability to remember dreams

  • Hallucinations or delusions

  • Obsessions

 

There are many ways you can help to support and heal your brow chakra:  

 

Appreciate beauty
Because the brow chakra is all about what we ‘see’, taking time to see the beauty in things can help to unblock this chakra. Try going for a walk amongst some beautiful scenery, or visit a gallery to look at art, sculpture or photography.

 

Create visual art
If you’re feeling artistic you could create visual art – whether it is sketching, drawing, pottery, collage or sculpture.

 

Working with memory
Memory loss can cause issues with the brow chakra. If you have issues with lost memory, try working with a professional to explore this.

 

Dream work
Our dreams are the link between the conscious and unconscious mind and represent our inner world. Before you go to sleep, affirm that you will remember your dreams. When you wake up, before you move your body at all, try to recall what you can about your dreams. Then write down everything you remember – write your dream in the present tense. People, animals and objects that appear in our dreams often represent parts of ourselves. By writing your dreams down you can start to try to interpret what they may mean.

 

Hypnosis
Hypnosis also accesses the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is a great way of trying to explore any emotional issues, patterns or behaviours and re-programming any negative habits.

 

Develop your intuition
This is a great way of healing the brow chakra. Pay attention to the thoughts that come in to your head – the little nudges or urges that come quietly to you. You can also try my exercise to get more in tune with your gut instinct. 

 

Guided visualisations
Guided visualisations are another great way of healing your brow chakra. You can find a great variety online for free or you can buy CDs or apps for your phone.

 

Self-reflection
In order to access your wisdom and gain clarity, some self-reflection may help. Try looking back on your life and considering what you have achieved, what you have learnt and what your strengths are.

 

Fragrances
If you enjoy burning essential oils or using them in aromatherapy practices, try rose geranium, violet, jasmine, geranium, chamomile, sandalwood or carrot seed.

 

Crystals
The following crystals can be carried in your pocket or bag, left under your pillow or next to your bath, or used in healing to support the brow chakra: purple fluorite, purple apatite, azurite, sapphire, sodalite, jet, black opal, sugalite, lapis and pearl.

 

Yoga poses
If you would like to support your brow chakra through yoga poses, try downward dog, child’s pose or plow pose.

 

Affirmations
Affirmations can be helpful and, for the brow chakra try: 

 

I find wisdom from my past and healing in the present

I trust my inner guidance

I am wise and intuitive

I am aligned with my highest good

I can see all things clearly

I can manifest my own vision.

 

Colours
Indigo is the colour of the brow chakra. To support this chakra, eat purple foods such as red grapes, blackberries, lavender, aubergine, blueberries, raspberries, red wine, red grape juice, lavender and poppy seed. Or wear purple clothes or accessories and surround yourself at work or home with purple objects.

 

Meditation
Meditation is a great way of connecting with your inner wisdom and intuition and enabling you to see things more clearly. Anyone can meditate and there are many different ways of doing it. If you’re new to it, try downloading an app to help you get started. Headspace and Calm are good options.

 

Work on other chakras
No chakra works in isolation. They all affect each other. The brow chakra is paired with the solar plexus chakra and a healer may choose to work on these chakras at the same time to achieve maximum affects. Find out more about the solar plexus chakra.
