This is the seventh in the series of blog posts focusing on the main chakras and in this blog we look at the seventh chakra – the crown chakra.
The crown chakra is the seventh chakra and it is at the top of the "chakra ladder". This chakra is like a bridge to the universe and gives us access to higher states of consciousness and awareness. Through this chakra we feel connected to the universe and can reach our higher potential. We can transcend our limitations and know enlightenment. The chakra is like a door taking us beyond our materialistic needs and to the true nature of life – to abundance, joy, bliss and purpose.
Below is a summary of the some of the main attributes of the crown chakra:

What are the signs of a healthy crown chakra?
With a balanced crown chakra we are trusting, honest, aware and have a deep sense of fulfilment, peace and oneness. We are able to perceive, analyse and assimilate information. With a balanced crown chakra we can experience bliss, higher consciousness, and transcendance of our limitations. We trust in the flow of life and synchronicity. With a healthy crown chakra everything is in alignment, everything ‘just flows’.
What can affect your crown chakra?
Anything that affects our beliefs can affect our crown chakra. If we are fed misinformation or lies or if we have been brought up within a rigid education system or with rigid beliefs, our crown chakra may be unbalanced. Anything that results in us not having freedom of thought is detrimental to the health of the crown chakra. We can also sometimes find that issues with our fathers or mothers may show up as a blocked crown chakra. The other primary emotion that can cause problems with our crown chakra is fear.

How to support and heal your crown chakra
There are many ways you can help to support and heal your crown chakra:
Learning and study Keeping your mind open and engaged is a great way to open the crown chakra. Find a topic that interests you and read a book on it or start on a course of study.
Write down your dreams Keeping a dream diary can help. When you wake in the morning, before you do anything else write whatever you can remember about the dream, particularly moods or emotions. Keeping a track of your dreams may help you to spot themes.
Silence This is a simple one! Turn off the telly or the radio and just have a few minutes silence. Bliss!
Be the witness Witnessing how you behave and react to situations can really help with balancing the crown chakra. Think of a time you have been in a situation where you have been upset, angry or have over-reacted. Play that situation out in your mind as if it were on a big screen in front of you. Press ‘play’ and watch the scene – playing close attention to your responses. When the scene gets emotionally charged, press pause and see the situation freeze on the screen in your mind. At this point ask yourself “why did I react like this?” or “How did this make me feel and why?”. Be as detached as you can and just witness yourself.
Meditation Meditation is a fantastic way of opening the crown chakra. There are so many different types out there. At the moment I’m enjoying the MindCalm technique by Sandy Newbigging. But there are so many other techniques – just relaxing and focusing on your breath can work wonders.
Fragrances If you enjoy burning essential oils or using them in aromatherapy practices, try armoise, jasmine, lavender, sage, frankincense, myrrh & iuniper.
Crystals The following crystals can be carried in your pocket or bag, left under your pillow or next to your bath, or used in healing to support the crown chakra: quartz, diamond, amber, moldavite, amethyst or pearl.
Yoga poses
If you would like to support your brow chakra through yoga poses, try lotus pose, tree pose and savasana.
Affirmations Affirmations can be helpful and, for the crown chakra try:
I listen to the wisdom of the universe
I am at peace
I am guided by a higher power/inner wisdom
I am open to new ideas
New information comes to me when I need it
Colours Violet or white is the colour of the crown chakra. To support this chakra, eat foods such onions, spring onion, garlic, mushroom, cauliflower and potatoes. Wear white or violet clothes and surround yourself at work or home with objects in these colours.
Visualisation
Try the following exercise to open your crown chakra: Sit comfortably with your back straight and bring your attention to your breathing. Focus on the in breath and the out breath and try to still your mind. After a couple of minutes take your attention to the top of your head and imagine a white or violet white colour there. Then take your attention as high as you can into the sky and imagine a bright white column of light beaming down from the skies and meeting this white light in your crown chakra. Stay with your attention on this column of white light and picture it entering your crown chakra and slowly flowing around your body. When you’re ready, bring your attention back to your breath for a moment or two and gently open your eyes.
Work on other chakras No chakra works in isolation. They all affect each other. The crown chakra is paired with the heart chakra and the base chakra and a healer may choose to work on these chakras at the same time to achieve maximum affects.
